NAU has announced alternate plans for a virtual commencement after cancelling all in-person Spring 2020 commencement ceremonies. On April 10, an email was sent out to all graduating students about creating a personal online graduation slide.

According to the email, Spring 2020 graduates are invited to a virtual celebration that can be shared remotely among family, friends and be downloaded to share on social media.

"Each graduate will have the opportunity to be recognized with an official slide that you will customize with your photo, a personal message and name pronunciation," the email stated.

Graduates are instructed to create a password for their account on MarchingOrder, which is a website where graduates can add a personal touch and create slides to coincide with graduation ceremonies.

MarchingOrder began in 2003, and they are also partnered with several other universities, as stated on their website. These include ASU, University of Pennsylvania, University of Guelph-Humber and Appalachian State University.

In addition to a virtual ceremony, NAU will be sending out graduation kits. For students who have RSVP'd for a convocation, they will receive a digital sticker from their convocation representative to add to their photo.

Although Spring 2020 commencements will be now be conducted online, all May graduates are invited to walk in a special ceremony Dec. 12, President Rita Cheng said in a March 24 email.
