Jan. 22

At 11:38 a.m., a staff member at Cline Library reported that a non-student was damaging state property. Three NAUPD officers arrived at the scene, and the individual was booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility (CCDF) for an outstanding warrant and an aggravated criminal damage charge.

At 5 p.m., a non-student at Hilltop Townhomes called to report the theft of their backpack at approximately noon that same day. An NAUPD officer took a report, but the case was closed after all leads were exhausted.

Jan. 23

At 1 p.m., a staff member in Allen Hall called to report smoke emanating from a nearby Dumpster. NAUPD and FFD responded, but no smoke was visible. Everything was fine.

At 6:21 p.m., a student called to report that they were attempting to commit suicide on the urban trail, near the NAU practice fields. NAUPD responded to the scene, and the student was transported to FMC for treatment and evaluation. If you or a friend are having suicidal thoughts, call 1-800-273-8255 for 24/7 help.

At 8:30 p.m., an RA called to report the odor of marijuana wafting through Reilly Hall. NAUPD responded, and one student was booked into CCDF for possession of marijuana. Two other students were criminally deferred for use of marijuana.

Jan. 24

At 6:51 p.m., someone called to report a person shouting at a passersby outside the Communication building. NAUPD responded but didn’t find anyone shouting.

At 7:37 p.m., an RA at Morton Hall called to report an unknown alarm sounding. The area was searched by NAUPD and FFD personnel who found some burnt food, which was determined to be the cause of the commotion.

Jan. 25

At 1:21 a.m., NAUPD assisted FPD with a fight that broke out off campus on San Francisco Street.

At 5:32 p.m., a Cline Library staff member called to report that a non-student was in the building who had previously trespassed. NAUPD responded, but the subject had left the area before they arrived.

At 10:28 p.m., a staff member in McConnell Hall reported there was a damaged sign in the building. NAUPD responded but found that the sign was in fact undamaged.

Jan. 26

At 6:59 a.m., Hi-Line Vending called NAUPD to report a subject who was kicking one of their vending machines at Sechrist Hall. One NAUPD dispatcher responded, and although no criminal activity was observed, hall staff was notified of the incident.

At 9:43 a.m., someone called to report a dog was off-leash with its owner near parking lot 13. NAUPD responded and searched the area but found nothing.

At 2:13 p.m., a staff member in Mountain View Hall called to report the smell of an electrical fire. NAUPD and FFD responded to the call. Upon investigation, there was no fire, and the building was cleared for re-entry. Fire Life and Safety was notified of the issue.

At 4:36 p.m., an Economy Towing employee called to report the theft of a tire boot outside Hilltop Townhomes. NAUPD responded and took a report. The suspect later returned the boot without incident.

At 6:45 p.m., FFD called for assistance in dealing with a vehicle fire near the Drury Inn. An NAUPD officer responded and assisted with the fire.

Jan. 27

At 7:07 p.m., someone waved down an NAUPD officer after two vehicles had collided outside Tinsley Hall. NAUPD made contact with the involved parties. No one was hurt, and one person was cited for not yielding from a private drive.

At 11:02 p.m., an RA called to report an intoxicated student in Sechrist Hall. One NAUPD officer, a Guardian Medical Transport ambulance and FFD responded to the dorm. The student was transported to FMC for treatment. The student may be cited at a later date.

Jan. 28

At 1:10 a.m., a student reported that someone was trying to break into vehicles in the San Francisco Parking Garage. One NAUPD officer went to check it out and made contact with the subject in question. A brief foot chase broke out, the subject was caught and booked into CCDF for consuming alcohol as a minor. There was no evidence of burglary.
