Police Beat

May 1

At 5:08 a.m., NAUPD officers assisted with the Special Olympics Torch Run when the runner crossed campus.

At 12:58 p.m., an NAUPD officer reported accidentally hitting a tree with his vehicle on campus.

At 9:33 p.m., an RA reported the odor of marijuana at The Suites. An NAUPD officer responded and five students were referred for using marijuana.

May 2

At 12:53 p.m., NAUPD received a call from two people trapped in an elevator in the San Francisco Parking Garage. Both NAUPD and the Flagstaff Fire Department responded and both people were safely removed from the elevator. NAU Facilities were notified about the elevator.

May 3

At 4:30 p.m., a student reported a skateboarder causing a traffic backup at the intersection of Huffer Lane and Pine Knoll Drive. An NAUPD officer responded but the skater was gone upon arrival.

At 10:50 p.m., an NAUPD officer initiated contact with a student who ran from them. The student was arrested for littering and underage possession of alcohol.

May 4

At 11:17 p.m., an RA reported the odor of marijuana at Reilly Hall. NAUPD officers responded and informed the RA the odor was not actually marijuana.

May 6

At 5:07 a.m., a McKay Village resident reported their roommate being assaulted. NAUPD officers responded and one non-student was arrested for trespassing, assault, disorderly conduct, preventing the use of 911 and underage consumption of alcohol.

At 7:30 p.m., a staff member reported someone yelling in the Cline Library. An NAUPD officer responded and informed the non-student that they are supposed to keep their voice down while in libraries.

May 7

At 12:07 a.m., NAUPD recieved a supervisory alarm from the South Village Apartments. An NAUPD officer searched the area and discovered a resident had set off the alarm by burning their food.

May 11

At 10:37 a.m., a staff member reported discovering drug paraphernalia at Tinsley Hall. An NAUPD officer responded but no crime was witnessed and staff disposed of the paraphernalia.

May 16

At 6:01 p.m., a staff member reported someone hitting their vehicle and fleeing the scene in the parking lot behind the Cline Library. An NAUPD officer responded and took a report.

May 17

At 11:55 a.m., FPD requested assistance dealing with an auto burglary. An NAUPD officer responded and assistance was provided.

May 18

At 9:12 p.m., an unknown subject reported a water leak near the corner of University Drive and Knoles Drive. An NAUPD officer responded but no leak was discovered.

May 21

At 6:21 p.m., an RA reported finding marijuana at Gabaldon Hall. An NAUPD officer responded and took a report.

May 22

At 1:07 p.m., a staff member reported a fellow staff member passed out in the Anthropology Lab. NAUPD, Flagstaff Fire Department and Guardian Medical Transport responded. The staff member was transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center.

May 26

At 11:01 p.m., an NAUPD officer initiated a traffic stop on Beaver Street and Butler Avenue. The officer issued a warning to the driver for an unsafe lane change and straddling the lane divider.

May 27

At 6:18 a.m., an off-duty NAUPD officer reported a non-student dragging a large car jack near the intersections of McConnell Drive and Pine Knoll Drive. An NAUPD officer responded to find the jack abandoned and took it to the police department for safekeeping.

At 12:26 p.m., a parent reported a dispute between two youth soccer teams at the South Fields Complex. NAUPD officers responded and separated the teams. No criminal activity was witnessed.

May 28

At 11:57 a.m., an NAUPD officer discovered a construction employee sleeping on a couch in the University Union. The worker was found to be in good health and vacated the area upon request after being informed only students are allowed to sleep on the couches.
