President Donald Trump was impeached Jan. 13 by the United States House of Representatives for a historic second time.
The charge — “incitement of insurrection” — comes after the violent storming of the nation’s Capitol Jan. 6. A few members of Congress announced their support for his impeachment including, but not limited to, all 13 Texas Democrats as stated by The Texas Tribune.
Such was reflected in the votes, which were 232-197 in favor of Trump’s impeachment, according to The Associated Press.
However, the soonest Trump can face trial is Jan. 19, which is the day before President-elect Joe Biden’s scheduled inauguration.
A statement from U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell calls for the country to instead focus on the Biden Administration taking office within the next seven days.
