WVB vs. Portland State

The NAU women's volleyball team celebrates a point during their game against the Portland State University Vikings Nov. 9.

The NAU women's volleyball team swept The Portland State University (PSU) Vikings at the Rolle Activity Center Saturday night, their second in as many games. The Vikings efforts would be proven fruitless as the Lumberjacks managed to stay dominate PSU to make for a quick and efficient win.

NAU was determined to end the day on a good note as the team quickly put away the Vikings in the first set with a 10 point margin win, 25-15.

The Vikings made some offensive changes in the second set to try and equalize the score, but NAU took the set win 25-20. The Vikings were in danger of being sent home early and mustered up everything they had left. However, the Vikings could not get a set win as they lost 25-23 to seal the sweep for the Lumberjacks.

In Heaven Harris’ second game back from a minor leg injury, she put up 9 kills and 3 blocks on the night. Alongside her were senior outside hitter Sydney Lema and senior middle blocker Abby Akin, who were the top two players on the night. Lema and Akin had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

With the win, the Lumberjacks are 16-10 on the season and 9-5 in conference play, keeping NAU ranked No. 3 in the Big Sky Conference. The Lumberjacks are just two weekends away from the conference tournament with four games left in the regular season.

The team will look to carry momentum as they travel to take on the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
