NAU women's basketball traveled to Greeley, CO for their second regular-season matchup as they defeated the University of Northern Colorado 71-60. In the third quarter, both teams were tied for the majority of the game. As the fourth quarter closed out, NAU crept ahead and shut out the Bears to take home the win Thursday night.
Last Thursday, the Lumberjacks were in a winning position until they lost to Idaho State University 79-76. The situation was the exact opposite in Greeley as they ended the first quarter down 28-16.
With a pedestrian first quarter behind them, the Lumberjacks went to work, going on to outscore UNC every quarter after, but could not maintain a lead.
The two teams went back-and-forth on the offensive, keeping the score near equal throughout much of the third quarter.
With time running out and opportunities looking slim, NAU crept past the Bears in the fourth quarter with a three-point shot from junior guard Jacey Bailey to take the lead 61-58 with 5:08 left in the fourth quarter. Bailey was shooting with accuracy Thursday as she led the team in points with 24 while shooting 8-11 from the field.
NAU burst ahead, padding on points to build cushion as they held onto the 71-60 win.
With the win, NAU is 13-10 on the season and 10-4 in conference play making them 2nd in Big Sky. They will continue on the road to Cedar City, Utah to play the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds on Feb. 15.
