NAU football player Malik Noshi's body was found in his Flagstaff home July 7.
The Associated Press reported that through an ongoing investigation in Coconino County, Noshi had cocaine and alcohol in his system. The cause of death was acute fentanyl intoxication. Foul play was not a factor, and Flagstaff police are ruling his death as an accidental overdose.
Noshi was honored by his team in their first game of the season Aug. 29 by carrying his jersey to the coin toss and receiving a penalty as they left his position unfilled on opening play.
