On a snow-covered golf course in Greeley, Colorado, NAU made it look easy as both the men's and women's cross-country teams claimed the 2019 Big Sky Conference titles.
In the women's 5-kilometer race, the Lumberjacks redeemed themselves in dominant fashion after allowing the Southern Utah Thunderbirds to soar over them last year and snap their two-year conference title streak.
After missing all of last season, redshirt senior Mikayla Malaspina led the way for the NAU women with a second-place finish with an 18:15.3 time. The Lumberjacks secured their team title after having three more women score inside the top 10 with junior Pipi Eitel in fifth, sophomore Taryn O'Neill in sixth and redshirt senior Miranda Myers in ninth. Sophomore Bryn Morley finished 14th to be the fifth and final scorer for NAU.
The women totaled 36 points to demolish the second-place University of Idaho. This is the women's third Big Sky Conference title in four years and 21st all-time.
In the men's 8-kilometer race, the Lumberjacks swept the top three spots with freshman Drew Bosley winning the individual title with a 26:50.8 time. Redshirt senior Geordie Beamish and redshirt freshman Brodey Hasty finished second and third, respectively. Sophomore Ryan Raff finished sixth and redshirt sophomore Jack Shea finished 12th to close out a 24-point performance by NAU and securing the men's fourth straight Big Sky Conference title and 28th all-time.
Next up, the men and women will compete in the NCAA Mountain Regionals Nov. 15 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
