On Sept. 13, the City of Flagstaff announced that the city’s minimum wage will increase from $15.50 an hour to $16.80 starting Jan. 1, 2023. The change in wage comes as a result of the passing of Proposition 414 in November 2016.
Prop 414, or the Minimum Wage Act, established that starting in 2023 the Flagstaff minimum wage shall increase annually in accordance with the increase in the cost of living.
A press release from the City of Flagstaff said the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the consumer price index (CPI) numbers for August 2022 to be 8.3% greater than the CPI for August 2021.
“Accordingly, as of Jan.1, 2023, the minimum wage in the City of Flagstaff will increase from $15.50 per hour to $16.80 per hour.” the press release said.
The cost of living in Flagstaff is estimated to be around 14% higher than the rest of the country according to payscale.com, a website that tracks employee compensation and price of living across the country.
