Jalen Cone, former star guard of the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, announced his transfer to the University of California, Berkeley. Cone will join the PAC-12 school in the midst of its rebuild, one that saw the Golden Bears hire its new head coach, Mark Madsen, after going 3-29 last season.

This is Coneโ€™s third school of his college career. He previously spent two seasons at Virginia Tech before heading to Flagstaff for two years.ย

Cone will look to build off a season where he scored 17.6 points per game, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists as NAU reached the finals of the Big Sky basketball tournament.ย

The Golden Bears will need a secondary scorer and Coneโ€™s scoring ability certainly could help. The team's leading scorer last year, junior guard Devin Askew, averaged 15.5 points per game on 38/30/86 shooting splits.

Moving to the Pac-12 will be a distinct change from the Big Sky, but Coneโ€™s growth as a player over the past two seasons at NAU should translate well to the Power 5 conference.

This news comes soon after NAU acquired former Pepperdine Center Carson Basham from the transfer portal.
